Choral Music Boosters

A critical part of being a chorus teacher is developing a good rapport with the parents, and the outgrowth of that is the organization of Choral Music Boosters.  Great parents and parent involvement will make your job so much easier than it could ever be without them.  Besides, you will meet wonderful people who will be willing to jump in front of a bus for you, all because you care for their children.

What will choral music boosters do?  Well, for starters they will provide the food for every extra rehearsal you have.  They will organize ticket sales, order t-shirts, man the ticket table on performance nights, and bring food to the pit to keep the conductor from falling over.  They will search every dollar store, pharmacy and beauty supply to find white hairbrushes for the Beauty School Dropout production number in Grease.  They will convince the local junkyard owner to donate an MG — and then talk him into cutting it in half, no charge.  They will plumb the depths of antique stores and find old streetlights for you to use in Les Miserables and lanterns for Pirates of PenzanceThey will drive you crazy, call you at all hours, pop into your classroom at inopportune times, ask intrusive questions, make unwanted suggestions — and save you once a week.

So how do you create this unwieldy but controllable beast?
